It’s hard to believe that August is halfway over, and the new school year has started. Congratulations on making it through this unusual spring and summer. In just a couple of short weeks, it’ll be time to celebrate Labor Day! And since we still need to remain socially distant from people we don’t know, the holiday weekend will be anything but typical. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t have fun and create some lifelong memories. Here are four things you can do on Labor Day that keep you safe and healthy.
Go Camping at Possum Kingdom Lake
It should come as no surprise that spending time outdoors is on my list. Labor Day Weekend is the last holiday weekend before the weather starts to cool down, making it the perfect time to go camping. Possum Kingdom State Park offers a number of campsites and RV locations near the water, making it easy to cool off during the hot summer days. Possum Kingdom Lake is known for SCUBA diving and snorkeling, which is something that many lakes don’t offer. If staying on land is more your thing, hit the trails for some hiking or biking.
Get in 18-Holes at The Cliffs
If golfing is your sport, then you know that The Cliffs is a “can’t miss: course. The course has worked hard to consistently maintain its status as one of the most spectacular courses in Texas. Designed by renowned golf course designers, Bruce Devlin and Robert von Hagge, the course combines traditional design elements with the natural beauty of the untouched land, giving golfers amazing views from every hole!
Host a Neighborhood Parade
Labor Day Parades are a fun way to get the kids involved with planning your weekend. Start by getting a few families to participate and plan out the parade route through the neighborhood. Be sure to block off the entrances and exits so visiting cars don’t mistakenly drive through the route. Next, pass-out flyers, post to the NextDoor app, or share to the neighborhood Facebook when the parade will take place and what the route will be. Encourage your neighbors to bring out their lawn chairs and watch from the yard. Let the kids plan how they want to decorate their bikes, scooters, or ATVs. Parades are the perfect way to see family and friends, create memories, and remain socially distant!
Plan a Labor Day Cookout
Labor Day is no stranger to weekend cookouts, but since you most likely won’t be celebrating with all your family and friends like you usually would, why not make this year’s cookout extra special for the family? Go the extra mile to decorate the backyard with tiki-torches and streamers. Since the summer season is coming to a close, many stores will have their backyard furniture on sell, why not purchase a new picnic table? Instead of the usual burgers and hot dogs, turn your grill into a pizza oven. Instead of using paper products, set a beautiful outdoor table to enjoy your meal.
While the holiday weekend may look a little different this year, there are still plenty of things you can do on Labor Day that allow you and your family to create life-long memories.
