One of the most entertaining names in lake recreation has to be Possum Kingdom Lake. Offering more than 310 miles of scenic shoreline and breathtaking views, Possum Kingdom Lake is a reservoir located on the Brazos River, and covers more than 17,000 acres, making it the perfect place to spend the day boating and fishing.
Fishing at Possum Kingdom Lake
According to Texas Parks and Wildlife, Possum Kingdom Lake is a recreation lake predominantly known for largemouth bass, white crappie, striped & white bass, and channel & blue catfish. Be prepared to fish 10 – 25-foot depths, and use as light of a line as possible in the clear water. Those fishing at Possum Kingdom Lake need a current Texas fishing license with appropriate stamp endorsement.
Boating at Possum Kingdom Lake
With Possum Kingdom Lake’s size and unbelievable beauty, it has become known as one of the best recreation lakes to spend an afternoon relaxing on a boat, go water skiing, go water skiing, or wakeboarding. Don’t own a boat, no problem, there are plenty of places that allow you to rent on for the weekend.
Swimming and Camping at Possum Kingdom Lake
Located at 2051 FM 2951, North D&D has 75 campsites available and costs approximately $3 per person weekends and holidays from May – September. Children under 13 are free. The sites offer a courtesy dock, covered picnic tables, swimming, playground area, restrooms, and shower facilities.
Bug Beach, located at 2760 Frontier, offers 100 campsites and there is no access fee. The area includes swimming, a boat ramp, picnic tables, and restrooms.
Located at the tip of the reservoir’s peninsula, Sandy Beach, located at 2291 FM 2951, provides boat ramp and courtesy dock, swimming area, playground, covered picnic tables, restrooms, and shower.
If you’re looking for a spot to spend an afternoon, Scenic Cove, located at 3401 Scenic Point Road is a great choice for swimming and picnicking. Restrooms are available and there is no access fee.
