We have all seen many changes this year due to the pandemic, but one thing we can all look forward to is the annual Possum Kingdom Possum Fest. While there will be some changes to keep with state mandates and compliances, it’s nice to have something to look forward to. So, go ahead and get excited, Possum Fest is coming to a town near you October 2nd and 3rd.
To ensure you’re able to enjoy this event safely, here is everything you need to know about Possum Fest 2020.
You Get to See Me
I’ll be there sponsoring the event this year. I’ll be hanging out at the different booths chatting it up with the cooks and other locals, so if you seen me be sure to say hi. All sponsors will have their name announced during the cook-off awards, so if you hear it, I sure would love it if you cheered me on!
Cornhole
The Possum Fest Cornhole Tournament is back for its second year and will take place on October 2nd. Sign-ups are due by 4 PM on October 1st at the PK Chamber office., and there is space for 64 – 2 person teams, and participants as young as 14 may play, but one team member must be at least 18. The entry fee is $50 per team. Cash prizes will be award to the first, second and third place. This is a single elimination tournament, so come ready to win.
BBQ & Chili-Cook Off
Nothing says fall in Texas like BBQ and Chili. You won’t want to miss sampling some of the best food around. Come ready to taste chili, ribs, brisket, pork, cobblers, possum nibble, Bloody Mary, margaritas, salsa and beans. If you want to participate in the cook-off, click here for the entry form. The form must be turned in by September 25th. All food must be cooked on-site and you may claim your cooking area on Sunday, September 27th. The Possum Nibble and Margarita challenge will take place on Friday between 6 PM and 7:15 PM, while the BBQ, chili, Bloody Mary, and Salsa challenges will take place Saturday from 11 AM – 2:30 PM.
Local Food Vendors
Supporting local business and vendors is one of my favorite parts about Possum Fest. When you support small business, you’re helping your own neighbors and friends. There will be local food trucks available to purchase food during the event, as well as other tents to shop and support.
Changes to Be Aware of for Possum Fest
This year, the chamber is requesting that no more than 10 people congregate in one area together and to please keep social distancing in mind. There will be no indoor restrooms available, but there will be outdoor portable bathrooms. To keep patrons safe, there will be no live entertainment at the event.
